Alberca Collective is a part of a series of coffees from small coorperatives in Peru who are all engaged in a reforestation program. The Alberca Collective micro-lot is made up of coffee from three members of the same family who each have a their own farms in a small village called Sport Piura. This lot is a mix from Maria and her sons Lorenzo and Chinguel Alberca who have invested in quality production to produce outstanding micro-lots. The farms are located in a high-altitude area with favorable climate around their town. They each farm separately, and occasionally combine high quality cherry for a family-wide lot like this one, which seems extra special. Over time they have improved their wet processing and drying methods, as well as introduced several varietes of coffee to grow, and have teamed with a project called Cafe Selva Norte that focuses on sustainable land use and adjusting the coffee value chain in Peru to better support producers.
This lot produces complex coffee, with great depth of flavor. It highlights everything we love about washed coffee, with notes of peach and cherry. This one grabbed our attention, and we think it will grab yours too!
