We're very happy to have some fresh lots from Jaime Ariza's La Virgen farm in Antioquia. Jaime is a member of the Coffee Grower's Association in Antioquia, a cooperative founded by Juan Saldarriaga, another grower in the region that the club's familiar with. The goal of the Coffee Grower's Association has been to change the perception that Antioquia produces mostly "generic" coffees for blending, and with the incredible lots they put out this year, we can't imagine that perception sticking around for much longer. We got tons of great feedback from the club about the Antioquia coffees last year, and we're very excited to share these beans with the club!
La Virgen is a relatively large farm, with many different varietals planted in blocks over 34 hectares. This particular lot is a Caturra that was dried on La Virgen's new "shelves" system, which allows producers to more easily move the coffees from cover to sun depending on the weather. This is a coffee that's anything but generic - big blackberry notes upfront provide sweetness and tartness, while a nice citrus tone lends some acidity. Enough said - what are you waiting for? Grab your favorite mug and your favorite brewing method, and get started!
