Classic: Mujeres de Risaralda
Variety: Colombia, Castillo, Caturra
Origin: Risaralda, Colombia
Producers: Cooperativa de Risaralda
This coffee is an excellent lot of washed beans from the Risaralda area of Colombia. As the name suggests, these beans were all grown by women who are members of the Cooperativa de Risaralda - a local coffee cooperative founded in 1958. The initial goal of the cooperative was to provide support to producers during tough harvest years and periods of low prices in the coffee market. Now, it's changing the traditionally male-led coffee industry in Colombia through programs that support female entrepreneurship and leadership within the cooperative. One of the ways they celebrate these efforts is bringing together beans from the best female producers in the cooperative - which is where we get this delicious and distinctive lot of Castillo, Caturra, and Colombia varietals. It's a great program that will continue to foster growth and progress in Risaralda and produce some excellent coffees to boot.
We're picking up on a really nice dark chocolate note in this coffee that's bold and just a little bit savory. We're also tasting a hint of grapefruit-like acidity, which is balanced out by subtle and smooth honey sweetness, both of which accent the strong chocolate note quite nicely. In all, this coffee made a great impression on us, and we hope it does the same for you and your friends.
