This coffee comes from the Gashonga cooperative in Western Rwanda - which is a women-run coffee growing cooperative founded in 2009. The coop has grown to over 100 members since its founding, acquiring goats and sheep with which they’ve developed their own organic fertilizer program in conjunction with agronomic training for members. They’ve also been able to invest in their members’ livelihoods - providing health insurance and educational opportunities. The quality of their coffee has also increased as the coop continues to grow, earning them a 7th place finish in the 2015 Rwandan Cup of Excellence competition. We look forward to hearing more about the progress out of Gashonga - and the great coffees we’re sure they’ll produce in future years!
This lot of Gashonga presents some wonderful flavors in a laid-back way. Notes of orange and chocolate mix together well in a smooth, full-bodied brew with some caramel-like sweetness. Overall it’s a great, composed coffee that would make a perfect early-morning cup or dessert brew - sweet and rich without too much acidity or tartness. Coffees like this are a treat - and we hope you take some time to savor this brew!

Gashonga is easy-drinking, a mellow brew which, while not offering the most complexity, is highly satisfying. Not picking up on orange, but I'm digging the molasses like sweetness and deep, rich, smooth body of Gashonga.

Nice caramel and chocolate notes to this coffee, but a bit more average, complexity-wise, than the usual Moustache selection. Still, a tasty cup.

Fruity, not the most memorable, but definitely decent and won't disappoint.

I felt biased against South American coffees since I kept receiving and enjoying those. The first couple of brews felt a little bitter to the taste, maybe because in the change of coffee, but every day after I thoroughly enjoyed this batch. Not at all bitter afterwards, easy to sip and low acidity actually.

Creamy and rich as espresso, but yet also mild flavored. Almost tea-like.

I even tried to increase the quantity of grinds for my chemex preparation, but it's just too mellow for me. I really wanted to love this coffee because I'm excited about their woman-run co-op!

This coffee has a pleasant taste and really got us going! More caffeine than others perhaps? Good stuff. We picked up on the orange and chocolate (yum) and less on the caramel. We perhaps prefer this mellow and smooth-flavored bean to the more "complex" flavor of some of the other coffees we've had from Moustache. Probably just depends on your preference. One of our favorites so far. We ordered a few extra bags!

This coffee was very mellow, very relaxing, and pleasant to drink. I didn't find that it stood out in any particular category. It didn't grab my attention. It fell into the background of whatever I was doing at the time. This isn't a bad quality -- such a mellow coffee is a safe bet to give to guests of varying tastes. For me personally, I find myself wanting a coffee that stands out and makes me notice it, take my attention off of my task and go "wow." But this is a coffee I would keep as a staple when I am studying or otherwise focused.
