Processing: Washed

Origin: Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia

Producers: Haru Small-Holders

Altitude: 1800m

It’s always a pleasure to be enjoying a lot from our friends at Kanketi Coffee in Ethiopia. This particular bean was processed at their washing station in Haru, a village in the center of Yirgacheffe. The area is renowned for its coffee and has one of the highest densities of coffee producers anywhere in Ethiopia, which means there’s plenty of ripe coffee cherries delivered to the station during harvest. The Haru washing station uses a disc pulper to remove fruit and soaks beans for up to 78 hours before an intensive grading and sorting process. The beans are dried on traditional raised beds before heading to Addis for export. A short time later, they end up in our roaster before completing their journey in your grinder!

This lot of washed coffee is giving us a lot of the classic Yirgacheffe profile that specialty coffee fans love so much. We’re getting a tart, stonefruit note with good sweetness and acidity, some cocoa richness, and wonderful floral qualities that make the brewing aroma quite appealing. Ethiopian coffees are always a favorite around the roastery, and we hope you enjoy this one as much as we certainly will!

A very good, light coffee but with some flavor.

Another winner

Tasting notes were spot-on. Nose is mild floral. Upon tasting, sweetness hits first, rounding into a deep cocoa and stonefruit finish. Mild floral notes. Good complexity but easy drinking.

Preferred others

These coffees have definitely refined my coffee palate. I prefer the previous two shipments over this one. I'm enjoying the education.

Lacking in Acidity

This coffee is nice but not a stand-out. It doesn't pop in the mouth, instead it has sort of a warm, calm flavor profile. Not exactly what I am looking for.

Lightly roasted creamy dream

This is my first order from Moustache Coffee and the description of this bean and roast was perfect. I'm intending to learn my own taste and preference with really good coffee. While I thoroughly enjoyed this I think it is a bit light for my coffee taste. I look forward to my next roast.

Beautiful cup!

I’ve never tasted coffee like this. It’s a very clean cup of coffee. I taste hints of toasted bread and a finish of light sweet fruity notes.

Stupendous

A bean that just keeps getting more delicious as you drink it. Initial impression was underwhelming. The smell didn't blow me away and even the first few sips were kind of bland. But as I kept drinking, I just couldn't stop. It's sweet, fruity, complex and full without being overly acidic. It's one of the best coffees I have ever had and the best one in recent memory. My inlr regret is that I didn't get more. Loved it!!

Haru #3

Another nice Ethiopian coffee from Moustache, light but flavorful, with that distinct fruity tang of the Yirgacheffe district. Easy drinking, clean and balanced.

Too good to use cream

While I consider the mark of a good coffee to be that it is enjoyable to drink black, I enjoy drinking my coffee with cream (not cream-ER, mind you). This coffee was so good black, however, that I never drank it with cream as I thought the cream would only detract from it. :)
