Hunkute is a fantastic coffee from Ethiopia, and one of the first lots that Nordic Approach ever exported. Named for the washing station where it's processed, Hunkute has become a "headliner" in NA's Ethiopian line-up, and we're really excited to show you why! The cherry for this lot is a mix of various cultivars grown by members of the Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union in the area, brought together at the station to be pulped, graded, and washed. After several rounds of grading and soaking, the densest beans are spread out on raised beds and dried for 12-15 days. Then it's on to milling and export from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capitol.

This lot has all the flavors we've come to know and love from a washed Ethiopian coffee: bright citrus notes of lemon and orange, a smooth honey sweetness, and that distinctive black-tea note giving a bit of bite and floral quality to the cup. It's hard to imagine a more emblematic lot for this part of the world, and we're very happy to have this coffee leading off our slate of Ethiopians this year. Drink up!

Fun for fans of Ethiopians.

It may be the time spent away from coffees from this part of the world, but this intrigues me. It's not like the Ethiopian beans I've tried, but has the characteristics. I found all my brews to be quite rich, with something almost meaty in the cup before I got too fine and bitter. The mentioned notes are more subtle; The sweetness is especially non-obvious. I'm eager to try shipments from other Ethiopian producers and figure out how to taste something like this better.

Sweet & Floral with nice structure

This is a terrific cup, especially in a french press. Full, but not heavy, with great floral notes and a nice balance of acidity. I'll be sorry when it is gone.

I've been switching to French Press on this one at home too - super balanced. We've got a bit left yet - add it to your schedule!

Nicely sweet and bright

Bright and flavorful, and a bit astringent. This is a very easy coffee to wake up with, as there is no harshness at all. The light sweetness tempers some of the natural bitterness that coffee has, but both the sweet and bitter are in balance with each other. Overall, quite nice.

Today I learned when the review says "citrus" they may be talking about a flavor I try to avoid in coffee

Ethiopian coffees have long been among my preferred sources, but I think I prefer a darker roast than this offering. That said, the coffee grew on me, and gave me an appreciation for flavor overtones I have previously tried to avoid.

Clarity is often overlooked with coffee. Always nice to mix it up;)
