Konga Sede
Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia
Variety: Ethiopian Heirloom
Processing: Washed
Origin: Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia
Producers: Konga Small-holders
Altitude: 1900m
This washed coffee out of the Yirgacheffe district was grown by several small-holders and brought to process at the Konga mill. The cherries were mechanically pulped and separated into different grades based on size, of which these beans were the highest grade. The washing process at the Konga mill is very intensive, with another grading after fermentation based on density before the beans are soaked again and spread out to dry. All the sorting helps ensure that any size or density differences between the small-holders' coffees are accounted for, resulting in a lot that gives a consistent representation of the growing region's unique flavors.
This particular washed lot has a real nutty taste, in a good way! We taste smooth almond notes, entwined with some orange citrus flavors that give the cup a little zing without the full-on lemon acidity that sometimes shows up in washed coffees. We also love the floral quality of the cup, which reminds us of orange blossoms and jasmine. When you're brewing up a cup of Konga Sede, be sure to breathe deep and appreciate the bouquet of aromas it presents. Taste and smell are intimately connected, and you'll want to use as many senses as you can to enjoy this great Ethiopian coffee. Cheers!

Sign in to commentCoffee was too delicate for my tastes. The flavor was much weaker then I am use to.

I like coffee with richer, deeper notes. Earthy, chocolate, cherry, those sorts of things. I really tend to dislike South American coffees as they tend to be very bright and acidic. This coffee was a little too light and delicate. Good, just not to my taste.

After having a few specialty roasts, I've found Ethiopian beans to be my preference. This is a very nice washed coffee that is exciting to taste. The light citrus/nutty profile is unique and has a lot of depth. Would like to order another bag but then I'd miss out on a new awesome roast. Thanks for taking coffee as seriously as wine moustache.

Great coffee! It is smooth, light and delicate. It lacks any richness though to where the flavor almost tasted watered down which is why I gave 4 stars.

Making espresso with this coffee. The smell of the freshly ground coffee was amazing. Beyond that though I cant really say it was very memorable. I agree with many of the other comments that it just seemed too light. I would also likely enjoy more chocolate, cherry notes. These beans were just ok....the aroma though....the aroma was 5 stars.

This coffee, while good and obviously freshly roasted is a tad to light for my taste.

Excellent coffee! Smooth and bright flavor profile. Love the variety and high quality we're getting with moustache club! Such a nice treat to add into our other regulars.

This coffee was a very nice coffee. It was roasted well and the size of the bean lent to smooth grinding. The bloom was a little less then expected for a bean that was so recently roasted. The flavor although clean and smooth was a smidge weak for my taste. I tend to lean towards the dark chocolate, caramel, nutty and bold ranges.

This coffee is from East Africa. Did you mean that you find this similar to South American coffees?
