Item information

Huila, Colombia

Description

Variety: Caturra, Colombia, Castillo

Processing: Washed

Origin: Huila, Colombia

Producers: Coocentral

Altitude: 1800m

Coocentral is the main coffee growers cooperative in central Huila, and has worked with our importing partner Nordic Approach for years to improve the quality of the coffee and livelihoods of the producers in its programs. Pitayo is a coffee from one of the small-holder members of Coocentral who has received technical assistance and training to increase their coffee's yield and quality. A main difficulty in Huila is drying, due to the amount of rainfall and humidity of the region. Coocentral provides sorting and drying equipment, as well as training on methodologies that can help producers dry their coffees evenly and efficiently - leading to better cups.

Speaking of great cups of coffee - just wait 'till you get a load of these beans! We're getting that juicy berry note Huila is known for right up front, along with some lime-like acidity and light floral tone to round out any rough edges. This is specialty coffee with a capital "S" - the sort of bright, sweet brew that's the envy of third-wave cafes everywhere. We're super excited to be bringing this one home to the club, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Very unique coffee

Smooth, with strong citric notes and taste. Best way to describe this is to think as if you were drinking a coffee tea. After grinding it you can sense a very pleasant nutty scent. From what I have learned about coffee - this is the way coffee should be. Very different from our western approach to coffee and coffee culture. If you are looking for a traditional dark roast coffee with the traditional strong coffee taste and smell, this coffee is not for you. It is the complete opposite of it, yet a refreshing and unique alternative.

Superb Colombian

This is great coffee - bright and lively with a touch of acid yet without being overbearing or pucker-inducing. Pitaya has a strong backbone, grounding it and balancing out the high notes with robust lows. The result is a sweet and juicy well-balanced roast, an interesting and worthy representation of Huila.

Pitayo

If you enjoy light roasts, and look forward to analyzing the subtleties of a specific coffee, as opposed to being overwhelmed by the bitterness of dark roasts, Moustache is the club for you. With its citrusy and fruity aromas, this coffee has a very 'clean' smell and taste, and a smooth, slightly sweet finish. It's smooth, balanced, and easy to drink. It's a very nice Colombian coffee.

Fragrant

Another very good coffee. No acidity and a sweet aftertaste - at least to my palate.

Very nice bean aroma, grind aroma and full taste. I made it stronger to suit my taste. Best of the several Moustache beans we received so far. Not acidic but full of flavor. Thanks.

Earthy and delicious

I really enjoyed these beans with my Chemex + a little half and half. For my palette, which detests dark roast, this is perfect! Thanks Moustache team and the farmers/importers!

The Perfect Cup!

Smells so good right out of the bag and the sweet, nutty and citrus notes make this the perfect way to start the day!

A bit too acidic for me

I probably have a sensitive palette and hate to give a bad review, but this wasn't the coffee for me. I like fruity flavors, but this needed a little more creaminess to balance it out, for me. I give 4 stars only because I'd hate to see a coffee go away just because it didn't suit my preferences.

Once I sifted out the fines this was great

I make this as a pour over with paper filters, Baratza on 6. I had to sift out some fines to brew it this way but its worth it.

Woah

I've never tasted a coffee like this! The beans were incredibly hard to grind (by hand), but definitely worth the effort! Bring this back I need more!!
