Description

Variety: Caturra

Processing: Washed

Origin: Huehuetenango, Guatemala

Producers: Nicolas Ramirez Ramirez

Altitude: 2050m

Quejina has been producing coffee since Nicolas Ramirez's great-grandfather planted coffee trees on their property high in the Petatan forest. Today, Nicolas carries on that legacy by growing small lots of exceptionally high-quality coffee. Instead of doing one harvest for the entire farm at the end of the season, Nicolas harvests each lot as it is ready. This requires putting in many hours of extra labor but ensures that each coffee he grows is picked and processed at the peak of flavor. Pair that with our commitment to roasting and shipping as fresh as possible, and you're in for a treat.

In a cup of Quejina, the more savory flavors that usually lay down a base for wilder fruit notes are on full display. A strong hazelnut note stands out, providing an interesting mix of spice and sweetness that resonates throughout the brew. That isn't to say that there aren't fruit flavors in the mix as well. Blackberry tartness and a hint of grape provide some contrast to the nuttiness without overpowering the hazelnut note or adding too much acidity. Such subtle flavors can be teased out and accentuated by careful brewing, and we hope you'll take this opportunity to experiment with some new brewing techniques. We'd love to hear more about how you're making the most out of these excellent beans!

Well balanced and bright

Stays delicious even when the coffee cools down. Mellow but also embodies the description above (hazelnut, grape, etc.)

Great for beginners, too

Layers of cheerful flavors that give beginning coffee drinkers a bright morning cup with bitterness or overwhelming aftertaste. Perfect for summer afternoons on the porch.

A little too acidic for me

Overall this coffee is good with interesting flavor notes but just a bit too acidic for me.
