Riripa #2
Bale Mountain, Ethiopia
Variety: Kurume, Wolisho
Processing: Washed
Origin: Bale Mountain, Ethiopia
Producers: Bale Mountain Smallholders
Altitude: 1900-2100M
Score: 87.25
This coffee was processed at the Riripa washing station, located near the edge of the Bale Mountain Forest in the Ethiopian highlands. High altitudes, early season rain, and abundant shade from the forest makes this region an ideal place for high-quality coffee to grow. Many of the smallholders bringing cherry to the washing station are dedicated farmers, but some simply harvest the coffee plants that grow relatively untended on their land. The washing station sorts cherry by hand and density before the traditional pulping, washing, and drying process.
This coffee leans heavily towards the citrus and floral tones that Ethiopian coffees are known for. On the citrus front, we're tasting more oranges than lemons (which is to say there's more sweetness involved than just straight acidity). We're also getting some floral notes and an underlying tea-like taste that provides some backing for the more delicate flavors. All in all, Riripa is a bright Ethiopian brew to bring some zest to your daily routine.

Excellent Rwandan coffee, very full and sweet, with just a hint of tea in the finish. I could drink this every day.

Very good coffee, not quite up to the standard of the Gitesi that I had two weeks ago. A little more pronounced lemon/orange acidity and a stronger tea finish in this one.
I pulled out the trusty French Press with these beans. Immersion brewing does not disappoint.

This was a good coffee, not a favorite but still enjoyable.

Honestly, this coffee was truly exactly what it was described as, citrus and black tea. I got both notes each time I tried it so if you like those notes then absolutely get this one because it is so rich in those flavors! I only struggled because I am not a huge black tea/tea lover and that's why I drink coffee. This is only my second box and I let the club choose for me which I am not complaining about because I joined this club to expand my varieties in coffee and I am super grateful to have been able to try this one. But this one missed the mark for me.
Hey Isaiah, Thanks for the review. Glad you got the flavors even if it's not exactly what you were looking for. We are much less likely to send you a coffee with those notes again now that you've reviewed this one, so that part should be working fine. The more you review the more we can tailor the coffees we choose for you, enjoy!

This is the sort of coffee that I got into single-origins for.
Boom! Makes me really happy to hear that.

Although I often like Ethiopian coffees, I found this one lacking. I found it rather one dimensional. What I tasted at the very beginning of a sip was all there was, and I’m used to MCC coffees being more complex. The floral note was subdued, and this is the most earthy MCC cup I’ve had. Not a coffee I’d buy again

I like to brew Gitesi with an aeropress. Immersion brewing really makes these beans shine!
