The Montenegro family has been producing coffee for 4 generations in Guatemala, and have been growing coffee at their farm Vizcaya since 1870. Their specialty grade beans have been awarded in national competitions as far back as 2004 - and they most recently placed in the Guatemala Cup of Excellence competition in 2014. At Vizcaya, the Montenegros have encouraged the cultivation of local Inga trees - a leguminous tree that provides shade for the coffee plants and helps fix nitrogen in the soil to improve crop health. As an added benefit, the fruit from the Ingas (know elsewhere as "ice cream beans") make a sweet and tasty snack during the coffee harvest.

Speaking of sweet and tasty - you'll want to brew a cup of Vizcaya right away! We can't get enough of these flavors - bright cherry tartness combined with sweet raisin and spicy rum notes - it feels a little cliche, but this coffee is certainly something close to a party in a cup. So grab a few friends and your favorite batch brewing device, and share the love. The only thing better than great coffee is enjoying it with other coffee lovers. Cheers!

Vizcaya

Another excellent coffee, tart and sweet, but perhaps lacking the balance and finish of the El Tambor sample from last month. Moustache coffees are always fresh and a step up from others.
