Bensa #2 is a lot of natural-processed coffee from the Bensa washing station - which aggregates small amounts of cherry from small-holder farmers in the surrounding town. The coffee is sorted and processed at the station into what's called "parchment." Parchment is just green coffee that still has the final, papery membrane around the green beans intact, which can help protect them and keep their flavor longer. In many cases, coffee will be processed down to parchment at a station, moved to a more central location for final quality assessment, and then dry-milled to remove the parchment just before being bagged and sold. This keeps the quality as high as possible for as long as possible, resulting in more delicious coffee.

That's certainly the case here - Bensa #2 is one delicious Ethiopian coffee! We're tasting bright lime-like acidity and a crisp apple sweetness, alongside some of the classic floral notes that Ethiopian coffees are known for. There are even more fruity hints at play in the background, this is a coffee with plenty of depth to explore in subsequent brews.

Overpowering at first, but settles into a decent cup

I was a bit put off by this coffee the first brew. The limey acidity was so prominent it dominated the cup, and not in a pleasant way - I didn’t finish the cup for the first time since I joined this club! A few days later that prominence has settled and the cup is better balanced, leaving more space for the crisp apple and florals spotted in the tasting notes. The coffee is certainly better now but still a bit too tangy for my liking. It’s fine, and very interesting; I’m glad I tried it - ethiopian naturals are fascinating! Still, possibly my least favorite cup so far.

Love this one

I love sharp, fruity coffees, and this one fits the bill. It has a juiciness that most coffees, even fruity ones, lack. The floral undertone let’s you know it’s an Ethiopian, and there’s some sweetness about it too. Very happy with this one.

Smooth and surprising flavor

Delicious way to start the morning. This bean delivers a bright floral cup of coffee. Love it and will order more. Brewed with chemex, coarse grind.

Very interesting Natural

This coffee is good if you can retain the pour, kalita and Flat methods are more recommended for this coffee. Overall good caramel, a beautiful apple peel in the aftertaste. Nice coffee

Nice, what ratio did you use with the kalita?

Hi! 1:15... If it is strong for you you can bypass with 10g water
