It's no secret that we love washed Ethiopian coffees - and if you're not a believer yet, we think this lot of Deri Kojowa will make you one! This coffee was grown by small-holders in the Guji area - some of whom farm coffee specifically and some of whom just harvest cherry from coffee plants growing wild on their land. After harvest, all the cherry gets delivered to the Teshome Gemechu washing station where it is sorted into different grades, wet-processed, and dried on raised beds.

It's a perfect processing method for Ethiopian Heirloom beans that almost always produces sweet, aromatic coffees with distinctive flavors. For Deri Kojowa, we're picking up on some juicy apricot tastes, alongside some smoother honey-like sweetness and a touch of raspberry tartness. This coffee has a really fantastic balance of acidity, sweetness, and richness that makes a perfect brew every time - we hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Deri Kojowa not my cup of joe

Deri Kojowa was not my cup of tea, so-to-speak. In fact, it was more like tea than coffee. It was as described, light and impressively lacking in bitterness. Light, honey, juicy flavors not what I am looking for in my morning cup...I am more of a French roast or espresso kinda guy. I want a good kick-in-the-ass to wake me up and get me off to work, and a couple of chasers to keep me moving on the way. To be fair, this was my first experience with moustachecoffeeclub.com (it was a gift). I'll certainly try some others, but the focus on "light, fruity" flavors isn't going to work for me, I am looking for dark, serious java.

Hey Charles, sounds like you might be more partial to our Classic series coffees. Look for the lots that say "Classic" in the title - they might have more of the flavors you're interested in.

Excellent French Press

This is one of those coffees that you want to extract every bit of goodness out of. And for some reason, all the wonderful flavors really shine when the coffee's cooled down quite a bit. Not a coffee to put in a thermos to gulp down, more like a single malt sipper.

Juicy and smooth.

Very juicy notes here, without a ton of acidity. Based on my very limited knowledge of processing methods, I think that's thanks to the washing. Overall, things are very balanced here, with the sweetness, darker flavors, and fruit notes all present without overwhelming the others.

Delectable

Deri Kojowa has a very fragrant nose - floral and fruity. Upon sipping, you'll notice a vibrant tartness, a cross between blueberry and raspberry. If you like your coffees sweet, this one is for you. A luscious sweetness runs through the cup, and with a silky mouthfeel, Deri Kojowa disappeared from my mug quickly. Great if you enjoy tart and sweet coffees or a fan of wansed Ethiopian Heirlooms. Probably not for you if you aren't a fan of relatively high acid coffees.

Unbelievabily Good

Without a doubt the best coffee I've ever had. Guji Heirloom is my favorite varietal and these are the best selected, best roasted beans I've had from the region. THANK YOU 💕

Hey Alex, thanks so much for the kind words! We're big fans of Ethiopians too here at MCC (Sean's favorite for sure - I'm a toss up between them and some of the crazier Guats). We have some more Ethiopians lined up for the coming weeks including a natural that I'm really excited to roast, so stay tuned!

Give Me More

As we shelter in place just outside of SF my better half yells down the stairs into my office. Did you try the coffee....it was #@$@! awesome. That's from a person that so rarely drops profanity. 4 for the last 4 weeks have been top notch. I assume this is roasting again although I missed the Monday order cutoff window.
